  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, cream the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Fold in the mashed bananas.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
