  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the egg mixture, folding gently until well combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the buttercream frosting by beating the butter, powdered sugar, and heavy cream until light and fluffy.
  7. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Then, transfer it onto a clean kitchen towel.
  8. Spread the buttercream frosting evenly over the cake, leaving a small border on one of the short ends.
  9. Starting from the opposite short end, carefully roll the cake into a log shape, using the kitchen towel to help.
  10. Place the rolled cake onto a serving platter and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  11. Once chilled, remove the cake from the refrigerator and cut a diagonal slice from one end. Attach the slice to the side of the log to resemble a branch.
  12. Frost the entire log with whipped cream, creating a bark-like texture.
  13. Use the chocolate ganache to create lines and knots on the log.
  14. Decorate with marzipan mushrooms.
  15. Serve and enjoy!
