Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the eggnog, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.

In a separate bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder until smooth.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the batter, spreading evenly. Top with the remaining batter.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) over the top.

Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
