Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish with butter or line it with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in short bursts, stirring in between, until smooth. Let it cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, stirring constantly.

In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Add these dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture and stir until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the baking dish for about 30 minutes.
