Yam Casserole
Yams are often confused with sweet potatoes, but they are actually two different vegetables. Yams are native to Africa and Asia, while sweet potatoes are native to the Americas.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Peel and slice the yams into 1/4-inch thick rounds.

In a large saucepan, boil the yams in salted water for 10 minutes or until tender.

Drain the yams and transfer them to a greased casserole dish.

In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Pour the butter mixture over the yams and toss to coat evenly.

Sprinkle the pecans over the yams.

Cover the casserole dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and top the yams with marshmallows.

Return the casserole dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the marshmallows are golden brown and bubbly.

Let the yam casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.
