Whole Wheat Apple Pecan Scones
Scones originated in Scotland and are traditionally served with clotted cream and jam as part of an afternoon tea.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

Cut the cold unsalted butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the brown sugar.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Gently fold in the diced apple and chopped pecans.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it comes together. Shape the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.

Cut the dough into 8 wedges and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the scones cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before serving.
