  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, vanilla extract, egg yolks, and cornstarch until well combined.
  4. Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  5. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
  7. Divide the custard evenly among 4 oven-safe custard cups.
  8. Place the cups in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard cups.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes or until the custard is set.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until chilled.
  12. Serve topped with whipped cream and fresh berries.
