  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut the cold butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the tart cherries.
  7. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  8. Shape the dough into a round disc, about 1-inch thick.
  9. Cut the disc into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Brush the tops of the scones with additional heavy cream.
