In a bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar.

Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape each into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
