In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, warm water, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and roll each piece into a long rope.

Twist each rope into a pretzel shape and place them on a baking sheet.

In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the pretzels.

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and coarse salt on top.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
