  3. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and water together. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it is smooth.
