Spicy Corn Pretzel Crisps
Pretzels originated in Europe and were traditionally associated with Lent. The shape of the pretzel is said to resemble arms crossed in prayer.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and paprika.

Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and water together. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it is smooth.

Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope, about 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick.

Cut each rope into small pretzel shapes or any desired shape.

Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle the coarse salt over the pretzels.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pretzels are golden brown and crisp.

Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
