Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in granulated sugar.

Place the dough balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
