  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and salt, and mix well.
  4. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/4 inch (6 cm).
  6. Cut out desired shapes using cookie cutters.
  7. Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  9. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
