Schlotzsky’s Deli Bread was first created in 1971 by Don and Dolores Dissman in Austin, Texas. It quickly became popular for its unique round shape and delicious combination of meats, cheeses, and condiments.

  1. In a large bowl, combine the bread flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add the water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round loaf.
  7. Place the loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake the loaves in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Remove the loaves from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes.
  10. Slice each loaf in half horizontally.
  11. Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the bottom halves of the loaves.
  12. Layer the turkey breast, ham, salami, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion on top of the condiments.
  13. Drizzle vinegar over the fillings.
  14. Place the top halves of the loaves on the fillings.
  15. Serve the Schlotzsky's Deli Bread immediately and enjoy!
