  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the white vinegar and baking soda. Add to the cake batter and stir until well combined.

  9. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of the cream cheese frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
  10. Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes before serving.
