The origin of the sandwich can be traced back to 18th century Europe, but the concept of combining pizza and sandwich is a more recent culinary innovation.

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a small bowl, mix softened butter, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Spread the butter mixture on one side of each bread slice.

Place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down, on a baking sheet.

Spread pizza sauce on the bread slices.

Top with mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices, bell peppers, red onion, and olives.

Sprinkle oregano on top.

Place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side up.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes.

Cut the sandwiches in half diagonally and serve hot.
