Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.

Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the bottom of the prepared cake pan.

Arrange the pineapple slices on top of the brown sugar, and place a cherry in the center of each pineapple slice.

Pour the cake batter over the pineapple slices and cherries, spreading it evenly.

Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert it onto a serving plate.

Serve warm or at room temperature.
