Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together, stirring until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring until smooth.

In another bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the chocolate mixture, stirring until well combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the dish for 10 minutes.

Transfer the brownies to a wire rack and let them cool completely before cutting into squares.
