  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chopped pecans.
  4. Spoon the batter into a greased muffin tin, filling each cup about 2/3 full.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  6. While the muffins are baking, prepare the blood orange syrup by heating the blood orange juice and powdered sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup has thickened slightly.
  7. Remove the muffins from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle the blood orange syrup over the warm muffins.
  8. Allow the muffins to cool completely before serving.
