  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened.
  6. Spread the batter into a greased 9-inch round baking pan.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
