  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Add to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Spread half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle with half of the chopped nuts, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Repeat layers.
  5. Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
