Nutella was created in the 1940s by an Italian pastry maker named Pietro Ferrero during World War II when cocoa was in short supply. He added hazelnuts to stretch the chocolate supply, and thus Nutella was born!

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough and flatten it in the palm of your hand.
  7. Place a small dollop of Nutella in the center of the flattened dough.
  8. Fold the edges of the dough over the Nutella and roll it into a ball.
  9. Place the dough balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  12. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
