Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually pour in the melted chocolate mixture while whisking.

Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until smooth and fluffy. Add milk as needed to achieve desired consistency.

Once the brownies are cooled, spread the buttercream icing evenly over the top.

Let the icing set for at least 1 hour before cutting the brownies into squares.
