Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a mixing bowl, combine blackberries, 1/2 cup of sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, and water. Stir until well combined.

In a separate bowl, mix together flour, remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined.

Spread the blackberry mixture evenly into a greased baking dish.

Drop spoonfuls of the dough mixture on top of the blackberries.

Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the blackberries are bubbling.
