Miriam’s Not-So-Secret Challah

In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.

Add the eggs, vegetable oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir well.

Gradually add the bread flour, mixing until a dough forms.

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Punch down the dough and divide it into 3 equal parts. Roll each part into a long rope.

Braid the ropes together and place the braided challah on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

If desired, brush the challah with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Let the challah rest for about 30 minutes.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool before serving.
