  3. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
