  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into a circle slightly larger than the diameter of your skillet.
  3. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  4. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is bubbly.
  5. Arrange the apple slices in the skillet, overlapping them slightly.
  6. Place the puff pastry circle on top of the apples, tucking the edges down into the skillet.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  9. Carefully invert the skillet onto a serving plate, allowing the tart to release onto the plate.
  10. Serve the Maple Tart Tatin warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
