They accidentally overcooked the apples for their pie and decided to cover them with pastry and bake it anyway. The result was a delicious upside-down caramelized apple tart, which became the famous Tarte Tatin.

  3. Add the nectarines to the skillet, cut side down. Cook for 5 minutes until they start to soften.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into a circle slightly larger than the skillet.
  5. Place the puff pastry over the nectarines and tuck the edges into the skillet.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  8. Carefully invert the skillet onto a serving platter to release the tart.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!
