  3. In a separate skillet, sauté the onion and red bell pepper until softened.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer the bread slices, cooked sausage, sautéed vegetables, and cheddar cheese.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour the egg mixture over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.
  7. In the morning, remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature.
  8. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown.
