  2. In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until frothy.
  3. Add the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat on high speed until stiff peaks form and the mixture becomes glossy.
  5. Gently fold in the vanilla extract and food coloring (if desired).
  6. Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  7. Pipe small mounds onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  8. Sprinkle with edible glitter (if desired).
  9. Bake for 90 minutes, then turn off the oven and let the cookies cool completely inside the oven.
  10. Once cooled, remove from the oven and store in an airtight container.
