In a large saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and evaporated milk over medium heat. Stir occasionally until mixture comes to a boil.

Boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and stir in marshmallow creme, chocolate chips, vanilla extract, and nuts (if desired).

Pour mixture into a greased 9x9-inch pan.
