Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the flour mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Once the cake is cooled, cut it into 8 equal-sized rectangles.

In a medium bowl, beat together the marshmallow creme, powdered sugar, and vegetable shortening until smooth and fluffy.

Spread the marshmallow filling onto 4 of the cake rectangles, then top each with another cake rectangle to make a sandwich.
