Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.

In a saucepan, melt the butter and dark chocolate over low heat.

Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the Guinness stout.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs.

Gradually add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, whisking continuously.

Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, and fold until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
