Challah is a traditional Jewish bread, but it has also become popular in Guatemala, where it is often enjoyed as a sweet breakfast treat.

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, oil, eggs, salt, and yeast mixture. Mix well.

Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

Punch down the dough and divide it into 3 equal parts.

Roll each part into a long rope and braid them together.

Place the braided dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rise for another 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a small bowl, whisk together egg yolks and water. Brush the mixture over the dough.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before serving.
