Green bean casserole was invented by the Campbell Soup Company in 1955 and has since become a popular Thanksgiving side dish in the United States.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish.

Bake for 25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle the French fried onions on top.

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, until the onions are golden brown.

Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
