Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour 9-inch round cake pans.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the milk and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cakes from the pans and let cool completely on wire racks.

Once the cakes have cooled, spread apple butter between each layer.

Stack the layers on top of each other, finishing with a layer of apple butter on top.
