  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar mixture, stirring constantly.
  5. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. If desired, fold in the walnuts.
