Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.

In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate and unsalted butter together over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.

Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring until smooth.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake for 30 minutes, or until the cake is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
