  1. Put the dried figs in a medium saucepan and cover them with water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  6. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and orange zest.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  8. Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  9. Spread the cooled fig mixture over the dough.
  10. Crumble the remaining dough evenly over the fig layer.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Allow the bars to cool completely in the baking dish.
  13. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar and cut into squares.
  14. Serve and enjoy!
