Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.

Gradually add the flour and salt to the mixture, mixing until well combined.

Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.

Bake for 20 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped nuts over the crust.

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel candies and heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the caramel is melted and smooth.

Pour the caramel mixture over the chocolate chips and nuts.

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 1 hour.

Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours before cutting into bars.
