Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Stir in the grated cheddar cheese.

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk. Stir until a soft dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times until it comes together.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 inch (5 cm) and use a round cutter to cut out scones.

Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
