Easy Creme Brulee
Creme brulee is a classic French dessert that originated in the 17th century and was popularized in the 1980s. Its name translates to ‘burnt cream’ in French, referring to the caramelized sugar crust on top.

Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).

In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar over medium heat until it starts to steam.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and vanilla extract.

Slowly pour the hot cream mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.

Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pouring jug.

Divide the mixture evenly among four ramekins.

Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the ramekins.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.

Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature.

Once cooled, refrigerate the ramekins for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

Before serving, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar evenly over the top of each custard.

Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a golden brown crust.

Let the creme brulee sit for a few minutes to allow the sugar to harden.
