Cranberry Buttermilk Scones
Scones originated in Scotland and are a popular part of traditional British afternoon tea.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the dried cranberries.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vanilla extract, and beaten egg.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.

Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into 8 wedges.

Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with turbinado sugar, if desired.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
