Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the saltine crackers in a single layer on the sheet.

In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.

Pour the hot butter and sugar mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot crackers.

Let the chocolate chips melt for a few minutes, then spread them evenly over the crackers with a spatula.

If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate.

Allow the cracker candy to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set.

Once set, break the cracker candy into pieces and serve.
