The first chocolate chip cookie was invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1938 when she added chopped up chunks of a Nestle semi-sweet chocolate bar into her cookie dough, expecting it to melt and create an all-chocolate cookie. Instead, the chocolate chunks held their shape and the chocolate chip cookie was born!
