Chomeur’s Pudding
Chomeur’s Pudding, also known as ‘Unemployed Person’s Pudding’, is a traditional Canadian dessert that originated during the Great Depression. It was named as such because the ingredients used were inexpensive and readily available, making it an affordable treat for those struggling financially.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg.

Gradually add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, alternating between the two, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.

Pour the maple syrup into a 9x9-inch baking dish.

Spread the batter over the maple syrup.

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and boiling water until the sugar has dissolved.

Pour the sugar-water mixture over the batter.

Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.
