Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.

In a separate large bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar and egg mixture, and stir until fully incorporated.

In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for 30 minutes.

Once cooled, lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper and transfer to a cutting board.
