Chocolate Covered Caramels
Caramels were first made in the 17th century and were originally used as a medicinal treat.
This is vegetarian and gluten free recipe. Dish can be prepared in 60 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 7.

In a medium saucepan, melt the sugar, butter, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Continue to cook until the mixture reaches 245°F (118°C) on a candy thermometer, about 10 minutes.

Remove from heat and let the caramel mixture cool for 5 minutes.

Line a baking dish with parchment paper and pour the caramel mixture into the dish.

Let the caramel cool and set for at least 30 minutes.

Cut the caramel into small squares.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.

Dip each caramel square into the melted chocolate, coating it completely.

Place the chocolate-covered caramels on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Sprinkle sea salt flakes on top of each caramel.

Let the chocolate set at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
