Chocolate chip cookies were accidentally invented by Ruth Wakefield in 1938 when she ran out of baker’s chocolate and substituted it with chopped chocolate in her cookie recipe.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
  5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool in the baking dish for 30 minutes.
  8. Cut into bars and serve.
