Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.

In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

In another mixing bowl, cream together unsalted butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk and mix well.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

Press half of the cookie dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.

Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cookie dough.

Crumble the remaining cookie dough over the cream cheese mixture.

Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Allow to cool in the pan for 1 hour, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before cutting into bars.
